We are pleased to announce that St Colmcilles has been chosen as 1 of only 16 clubs nationwide to pilot the GAA´s new Healthy Club initiative. This is a great honour and will allow us to serve our membership and community even more.

The club will be assisted by the GAA in putting health and wellbeing at the heart of everything we do through a process that aims to ensure that the GAA Club becomes associated with fitness and wellbeing for its members (players and non-players) and also for the wider community.

We will be announcing a public meeting on the project in the coming weeks to obtain views on and volunteers for the project but in summary we hope to be able to assist in a range of health-related issues, including:
  • healthy eating and diet
  • drugs and alcohol misuse
  • mental health and wellbeing
  • suicide prevention and response
  • the promotion of health and wellbeing through physical activity
  • social inclusion initiatives and activities for older and non-playing members
  • health and safety

As a first step in the project the GAA has asked that all our members complete a survey (see panel on right) that can be used by it and the Healthy Club Project team in St Colmcilles to ensure the proposed programme will meets our club needs.

The survey will only take a few minutes to complete and we would be grateful if you could spend the time to complete this to ensure we develop the best programme possible.

Should you have any queries on the project or feel that you can assist in any way then we would love to hear from you.
