Moynalvey secured their second successive win in seven days in Division 2 of the A League when overcoming St. Colmcilles on a 2-17 to 0-5 score line at Kilmore Park Moynalvey on Friday evening May 17th.

The opening 15 minutes was a pretty even affair on the score board, although the visitors will feel they should have scored more as plenty of scoring opportunities were spurned by St. Colmcilles in the opening quarter. After 16 minutes of play the sides were level 0-3 apiece, but this proved to be as good as it got for the ‘Cilles in the opening period. Moynalvey rattled off seven unanswered points over the remainder of the half, giving them a 0-10 to 0-3 lead at the break.

Moynalveys Ciaran Ennis who hit 1-6 against St Colmcilles on Friday night in what was an all round poor display by our Senior Team.

The East Meath men added their 4th point of the evening within sixty seconds of the restart. By the time they registered their 5th and final score in the 53rd minute, Moynalvey’s advantage had been stretched to 1-17 to 0-4, with the goal coming from William Harnan. A second goal for Moynalvey from Ciaran Ennis in the dying minutes left Moynalvey comprehensive 18 point winners on a 2-17 to 0-5 score line.

Best for Moynalvey were Robbie Kiernan, Darren Brennan, Donal Smith, John Donoghue and Anthony Forde.

Moynalvey scorers: Ciaran Ennis (1-6), Anthony Forde (0-4), William Harnan (1-1), Ray Ryan (0-3), James Weldon (0-2), Ken Hyland (0-1).

Throw In – 7:30

This year’s Division 1 Final is a repeat of the 2011 Under 14 league and Under 14 Championship Final in which St Colmcilles won the first by five points and our rivals won the Championship by a single point in Navan. Last year at Under 15 we lost out to Simonstown in the semi-final who went on to beat the favourites Summerhill in the Under 15 Final.

Georgie Poyntin. On his day their is no finer U16 footballer in County Meath. He will give Summerhill plenty to think about tonight should he bring his A game to tonight’s final in Bective

There is one thing about Summerhill and that is tradition brings with it great consistency in their teams and a work ethic that makes them hard to beat. They are missing the dynamic play of Eoin Crowe for tonights final having suffered a broken leg playing for their Minor team. He will be a huge loss although it has not stopped the Summerhill side from making tonight’s final. They have danger men in abundance in absence of young Crowe. At centrefield the towering Iarla Hughes has been featuring on the score sheets on a regular basis and his fielding and powerful running need to be curtailed if we are to win.

Up front the Managers son Cathal Ryan must be marked tight. On the big occasion he is like the cream that rises to the top. He plays for long periods in obscurity and then pops up with great points and more crucially all important goals. Another to watch is the much improved Jack Ryan. A goal keeper turned forward, young Ryan is another who can get crucial scores and he is also a very attack minded player who needs to be watched.

The Brilliant “Banty”. James Conlon is in great form and will surely have big say in tonight’s final

For St Colmcilles we have Daragh Brodigan playing really well at the back. At centrefield Nathan Garland will relish the battle with Iarla Huges whilst up front we perhaps have the aces in the deck in James Conlon and Georgie Poyton with the latter playing great football right now and he was the difference the last day when we where huffing and puffing against Navan O’Mahonys in the semi-final. His class and 1-2 when he came on was the scores that turned the game.

However if we are to win we need big performances from the likes Luke Mooney, Brendan Long and Conor O’Byrne at the back whilst up front we also need big contributions from Stuart McDonald, Davey O’Byrne and Pearse Butler. These 6 have tonnes of Feile experience and winning the big finals and they need to all show up tonight if we are to win.

Brendan Long seen here battling with Summerhills Eoin Crowe on the way to the U14 League Final win in 2011. Young Long has been injured of late but is very good player who brings a tight marking physicality to our U16 team.

This will be a tight game. Our head to head is 50/50 and there wont be more than a kick of a ball in it. In a game that should be tight, individual class may well be the difference at the end. One feels that perhaps a Georgie Poyton or James Conlon on song may well see us win but with Summerhill you just never can be sure.

Kilmacud U10 Tournament

Division 1 – Group C

Ballinteer St Johns 2-2 V St Colmcilles 2-5

This was great contest with our B-Team having us 0-4 to 0-2 up at the break with us playing great football. The second halve saw both clubs roll out their A-Team and it was another cracking game with us winning out 2-1 to 2-0, the highlight being the wonderful goal by Sean O’Donoghue who’s finish was as cool as you like to see us win overall by 3 points.

Scorers: Oisin Murphy 0-2, Christian Finlay 0-1, Conor Farrelly 0-1, Sean O’Donoghue 1-0, Eoin Cummins 1-0, Euan Canniffe 0-1

Templeogue/Synge Street 1-1 V St Colmcilles 2-8

This game was tough to begin with. Our B-Team opened with scores from Cian Gunning and Ben Maguire but we were down at the break by 2 points as our opponents scored 1-1. The second half saw us roll out the A-Team and they played some great football. We overturned the deficit in double quick time courtesy of two great scores from Euan Canniffe and 1-3 from the boot of Fiachra Mac an Aba. Further scores from Sean O’Donoghue and a goal from Danny Ehicoya saw us hit 2-6 in the second half with our opponents failing to score.

Scorers: Fiachra Mac an Aba 1-3, Euan Canniffe 0-2, Cian Gunning 0-1, Ben Maguire 0-1, Sean O’Donoghue 0-1, Danny Ehicoya 1-0

Kilmacud Crokes 0-5 V St Colmcilles 0-5

This game was always going to be tough. Tough it was. Our B-Team played great football to have us level at the break at 0-3 to 0-3 courtesy of scores from Oisin Murphy, Christian Finlay and a wonderful point from Ben Maguire. The second have was a real pulsating affair. Kilmacud had some very good footballers on show. Our defence played great with Daniel Scally excelling in goals and Sean Horan outstanding throughout. Kilmacud did go one up and then we equalised through a great score from Danny Ehicoya. Kilmacud seemed to have won it with 90 seconds left when they kicked a great score but we never give in and a wonderful solo effort saw Fiachra Mac an Aba score the equalising point with seconds left before the hooter sounded. The draw saw great celebrations as we had made it through to the Div 1 Semi-Final

Scorers: Fiachra Mac an Aba 0-2, Oisin Murphy 0-1, Ben Maguire 0-1, Danny Ehicoya 0-1

Division 1 Semi-Final:

Ballyboden St Enda’s 1-4 V St Colmcilles 1-1

The Division 1 Semi-Final was another great match. Our B-Team had an exhausting encounter in the last Group game against Kilmacud and after a fine score from Christian Finlay to put us 1 up we then conceded 4 points on the bounce to go down at half time by 3 points. The second half saw us reduced the deficit to 2 points before Ballyboden increased it to 6 with a fine goal and a point. However we did not give in and a brilliant move spanning the field saw Sean O’Donoghue fire a brilliant goal to reduce the margin to 3 once more. For the duration of the game we missed numerous frees and tiredness saw us miss some gilt edge chances and in the end the second half finished 1-1 V 1-1 and saw us go down by 3 points overall

Scorers: Christian Finlay 0-1, Sean O’Donoghue 1-0

This was a great tournament that was extremely well organised. It had top teams across 3 groups and we can be rightly proud of the bold show we put on and reaching the last 4 losing to to the eventual winners Ballyboden St Enda’s by a goal. On the day our thanks to all the parents for their support and players for the football they played and great way they conducted themselves all day.

All County League Division 2

St Colmcilles V Walterstwon

Venue:Piltown

When: Sunday May 12th

Throw In: 3pm

Referee: Pauric Coyle

Our Senior Team is riding on the crest of a wave right now. Under the new management of ex Louth County star Colin Kelly we have a new pep in our step. In the Championship we are unbeaten with 2 wins from 2 over Gael Colmcille from Kells and Donaghmore/Ashbourne in Round 2 the last day up in St Pat’s Stamullen.

However its back to the bread and butter of the All County League. Our Senior team if they want to regard themselves as serious Championship contenders this year we need to treat every game in this League going forward like its a proper Championship warm up and try and win the League at all costs.

Consistency is everything and one cannot beat a consistent and winning team. This weekend we are without Graham Reilly due to Meath commitments whilst Ciaran Kelly is doubtful due to a knock the last day. This makes this Round 5 tie, very tricky indeed.

Our opponents Walterstown for their part have won 3 from 4 in the League and are unbeaten in 2 Championship starts at Senior Level . As profiles go this makes our opponents this weekend a tough nut to crack. Walterstown are 5 time winners of the Keegan Cup and have 2 Senior Leinster titles to boot. They have great tradition and this era’s team are good in their own right and will test our resolve given we are missing our chief marksman Graham Reilly as well.

However whilst our visitors are clearly in good form there are perhaps some kinks in their armour. If we are to win this game perhaps its in the knowledge we know that Walterstown have conceded only 1-6 per match and scored on average 1-11 per match. This on the face of it is a misery defence and economical forward line. If we are to win we have to play really well at the back and midfield and probably score in the region of 12 or 13 points to win. Can we do it ? Sunday at 3pm promises to tell us a whole lot more about our Seniors as they try and continue their charge both in the League and Championship. All support welcome at 3pm Sunday
